Strange Christmas Gift

My worst Christmas gift was given to me by my Mother in law in the 1990's. She was always very shrewd with money and never did get the Christmas spirit - always bought my husband pale blue socks, even though he always wore black socks only!
This particular year she gave us a knitted doll toilet roll holder with toilet roll included - something that was popular in the 70's and 80's, although I don't know how they were ever popular whatever the era!
We couldn't believe it - kept examining it thinking it was a joke and that there was money or a gift voucher tucked inside - but no that was it in all its pomp and glory. Needless to say even though we didn't want to appear ungrateful it never made the bathroom but went straight to the bin! We still laugh about it today but now with affection as my Mother in law has now passed away.
