I Loved My Diary!
When I was about 10 years old, a lot of Christmases ago, my Auntie brought me a diary as a Christmas gift. I remember at the time thinking ‘great, what am I supposed to do with that!’
Reluctantly, I gave it a go and made my first entry on Christmas night. Short and sweet at first, then gradually over the next few nights, I started to write more and more. Then something amazing happened. I can remember how much I looked forward to writing in my diary every night, recapping funny conversations I’d had with my best friends that day, which boy I had a crush on at school, how much my little brother annoyed me, everything I could think of in a space of about ten minutes before falling to sleep.
For the next few years, I put a new diary on my Christmas wish list!
Times have changed so much since then. Kids seem to be contented with their game consoles and televisions. This is fine, but wouldn’t it be great to see them spend just a few minutes writing their favourite memory of the day in their dairy? Diaries are not just educational; they’re fun and way of expressing yourself!
Dairies are also a lovely personal keepsake! My mum found mine in the loft last year and gave them to me. I can honestly say, I read them over and over again with nostalgic enthusiasm wearing a massive smile.
It’s not the first thing my children put on their Christmas list, but diaries are always there! They have the same enjoyment as I did writing them!
